MORTON ACADEMY – 1880

735 Main Street Extension

This one room school house is typical of schools of the day across the country. They served first through eighth grades, and were strategically located so students did not have to walk more that 2 or 3 miles. This school was constructed near where the present Swansboro Middle School is now, but was moved to its present location on Main Street Extension by Norman and Bobby Wells, who restored the structure. The interior has been upfitted with items and furniture representative of the period. This is a must see venue.
