Mark and Jeanine Jackson will present a history of Deer Island, a place where the Jackson family has had a connection for about 85 years.
The public is invited.
From 1715, Deer Island played an important role in the economy of the area, hosting windmills, turpentine and salt works, a wharf, and a sawmill. In the 1930s Deer Island became the residence of Bruce Brinkley of Richlands who used the beautiful location on the Intracoastal Waterway to entertain friends. He left Deer Island to his good friend Burwell Jackson in the late 1940s. Burwell and his wife Peggy created, over 60 years, an eclectic and welcoming home. Mark and Jeanine, along with Mark’s sister Barbara Carey, inherited the property and have strived to retain the ambiance of Deer Island.
